What IsleBlaque Is NOT

Like many movements and organisations, IsleBlaque is often misunderstood. I want to clarify what we stand for — and equally, what we do not stand for.
IsleBlaque is not a party space. We are not here for “Party Party” energy, for casual entertainment, or to feed into stereotypes. While cultural events like the Notting Hill Carnival have deep and serious roots, IsleBlaque’s purpose is different: we exist to create change, to progress together organically, and to build long-term impact. To box ourselves into stereotypes or to perform for the expectations of others would be self-sabotage. We are not a buffet or a lounge for people to take freely from us. IsleBlaque is not a charity; we give strategically, intentionally, and with purpose.
IsleBlaque is not anti-British. Our goal is not to attack the UK or its national identity. Rather, we aim to shine a light on the disparities Black communities face and to address them constructively. We do not act with malice toward other communities. Even as many have harmed us, our strategy is to focus on strengthening and reinvesting in our own, rather than retaliating or attacking others personally.

IsleBlaque is not about regression. We are not here to take the community back to the 1940s or to recreate segregation. We acknowledge disparities, but our focus is on empowerment, thriving, and progress. Within this community, we create safe spaces to grow and improve. Outside of it, we live fully, interact freely, and engage with people from all backgrounds — just like any other human being.
Finally, IsleBlaque is not an exercise in ego or superiority. We do not aim to make others feel beneath us. As a community, we know what it feels like to be at the bottom of the food chain. Mistreatment, abuse of power, or asserting dominance out of hurt or frustration is unacceptable. Our mission is empowerment, not oppression.
